A Troubling Question

Last week a story on my Facebook feed caught my attention. I was interested because it was a story about a friend of mine and his heroic actions that helped save a life. Let me give you the short version of the story.

Marty Anderson was driving through Meridian Township after completing his shift as a fire fighter and paramedic with the city of Lansing. Encountering a police officer responding to the home of a man who was suffering a severe heart attach, Marty accompanied the officer to the residence and took over CPR. The wife of the victim, Marty, and the 1st responders from Meridian Township combined to save the life of Mike Ball. This event happened in January and until the first week of August Mike and Marty had not met. Until their meeting Mike and his wife thought of Marty as their guardian Angel. There is much more to the story and if you want to hear more you can go to the Lansing State Journal of August 13.

Marty’s heroic actions are an inspiration to me. However, the words of Mike Ball haunt me. Mike said of Marty, “If he hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t be here.” As I think of my life I ask myself if anyone would say that about me. I am not a 1st responder and I have never administered any physical aid that saved a life. However, I follow God and claim to know the message of eternal life. Will I hear from anyone in Heaven, “If you hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t be here?”
